When Words Are Not Enough

I am certain I have bemused quite long enough
With regards to the “how to’s”, and “where fores”
Of how I might find the words to say
With depth of feeling and thought
Which I have kept I know not why at bay

How can I write words that convey
Much more than a mere feeling of gay
Both to describe and highlight
An awful special day

If you were there
Or had the opportunity to hear
The course of merriment and laughter
That constituted our fare

I have struggled to individualize
And personalize what come may
Hoping that you will feel my thanks
Much more day by day

I am not sure words are often enough
When one is trying to convey
Much more than thanks, appreciation, and such
And that surely ain’t no hay

I have had such good fortune
Blessings and a life
Punctuated with love, good friends and family
But also touched by strife

I thank you for your generous presents
Support, love and jokes
Your flexibility, generosity,
And thank God you gave up those smokes!

I am planning to place you on
A future planned event
Cause you were a great guest
Whose time and effort
Were well worth spent

Oh, I do hope you feel very special
With these words of thanks and glee
